Viz Adds Live-Action Manga-Based Detroit Metal City (Updated)
posted on by Egan Loo
The North American manga and video distributor Viz Media has announced on Thursday that it licensed Toshio Lee's live-action film adaptation of Kiminori Wakasugi's Detroit Metal City manga. Ken'ichi Matsuyama (Death Note, NANA) stars as Sōichi Negishi, a mild-mannered singer who is transformed into Johannes Krauser II — the frontman for a death metal band. Real-life rockers Gene Simmons of Kiss and Marty Friedman of Megadeth make cameo appearances. Details on a DVD release will be announced later. Viz is already publishing the original manga.
Update: Viz Pictures has clarified that it, and not its corporate sibling Viz Media, is releasing the film.
