Viz HQ Shuts Down for the Week After Flash Flood (Update)
posted on by Egan Loo
Not-So-Daily Link of the Day: The headquarters of the North American manga and anime company Viz Media is effectively closed today and tomorrow due to a sudden flash flood at its San Francisco location on Monday. An unexpected downpour on Monday afternoon caused storm drains to overflow and manhole covers to come off in localized flooding throughout the city. An eyewitness posted a video of a geyser-spouting manhole at the corner of Powell and Francisco Streets, which is on the same block as Viz's two-story building at 295 Bay Street. Viz Media's own Twitter account posted a photograph of the flooding on Monday afternoon before staffers left work early due to flood damage.
Viz Media staffers assured their readers that they "saved the manga first" before leaving, and will return to work once the custodial services and information technology teams restore the headquarters to normal operations.

Update: Viz Media's headquarters will be shut down for the remainder of this week due to the flood. Staff members do plan to return to their offices on Monday.
