posted on by Egan Loo
Sayaka Sasaki, a 27-year-old from Sapporo, won the 3rd All-Japan Anison Grand Prix singing contest at Tokyo's New Pier Hall on September 21. Jupiter Telecommunications and the Animax anime television channel run this nationwide audition to find "next generation artists" to sing anime theme songs. Sasaki won the final round this year by singing a song from Aquarion. She has been offered a chance to sing a song for an anime program that will premiere in 2010.
Catherine St. Onge, a 27-year-old Canadian living in Tokyo, won the singing contest last year. Her voice (under her new stage name HIMEKA) can be heard on Valkyria Chronicles and will be on this week's premiere of Letter Bee. The winner of the first contest, Shuhei Kita, has since performed on Persona -trinity soul- and Natsume Yūjin-Chō, and will next be heard on Miracle Train - Ōedo-sen e Yōkoso.
