Tokyopop Announces Online Manga Program
posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Tokyopop announced on Friday a new online manga program that will see new manga chapters debuting online on Wednesdays.
Tokyopop launched the program with the first chapter of PSY*COMM volume 3, which was released online on August 12.
Boys of Summer volume 2 is currently scheduled to begin online serialization on September 23. Volume 1 had been released in 2006 , but was pulled from numerous store shelves due to graphic content, and volume 2 was also scheduled for a 2006 release but was postponed indefinitely.
Other titles that will be released as part of the program include Earthlight, Patheon High, Undertown, Gyakushuu, Kat & Mouse, all world manga titles that had previously been discontinued by Tokyopop.
"With the launch of this online initiative, our goal is to increase visibility and demand for such critically acclaimed series as PSY-COMM, BOYS OF SUMMER and others that have, up until now, struggled to find their audience in a challenging retail environment," says Tokyopop's Associate Publisher Marco Pavia. "We are also exploring an on-demand model to satisfy print-edition demand for the online manga series. We'll have more news in the not-too-distant future, so stay tuned."
The upcoming online release schedule is available here.
