Viz Pictures, the live-action film affiliate of Viz Media, has begun streaming the three English-subtitled trailers for Yukihiko Tsutsumi's live-action film trilogy version of Naoki Urasawa's 20th Century Boys manga this week. In the award-winning suspense manga's story, a man realizes that the calamities cropping up all around the world have eerie similarities to idle plans he and his childhood friends made decades ago. The company also posted the trailer for the Funky Forest - The First Contact film.
After earlier screenings in film festivals, Viz Pictures will run the first 20th Century Boys film at the grand opening of the Viz Cinema theater in the NEW PEOPLE Entertainment center in San Francisco on August 15. The second film will follow from August 21 to August 28, and the third film will have a simultaneous opening in Japan and San Francisco on August 28 and 29. Viz Pictures will then release the first two films on DVD later this year, followed by the third film next year. Viz Media is publishing the fourth volume of the original manga in North America this month.
