Mazinger Z, North Star Scriptwriter Susumu Takaku Dies

Prolific anime and live-action television scriptwriter Susumu Takaku died of acute respiratory failure on Wednesday at 10:58 a.m. He was 76. The Fukushima native leaves behind his wife Kumiko. Takaku wrote for many television anime series, including Bakuhatsu Goro, Cutey Honey, Devilman, Mazinger Z, and Hyakujū Ō Golion (adapted as the Lion portion of Voltron). He also wrote the screenplays for the first Fist of the North Star movie and Mazinger Z Vs. Devilman. In the realm of live-action projects, he scripted Keyhunter and G-men 75.
