Gash/Zatch Bell's Raiku to Launch Manga in September
posted on by Egan Loo
Manga creator Makoto Raiku (Konjiki no Gash!!/Zatch Bell) has announced in a Monday blog entry that he will launch his next manga in a new magazine from Kodansha on September 10. Neither the manga nor its magazine has a title yet, but the magazine will be a spinoff from Kodansha's Weekly Shōnen Magazine. To promote the new manga, Raiku will publish a one-shot "Episode 0" manga in the main Weekly Shōnen Magazine on September 9. He is also drawing one unrelated four-panel manga strip in this year's sixth issue of Kodansha's Magazine Special, which ships in Japan on May 20.
Raiku ended his Konjiki no Gash!! manga in Shogakukan's Weekly Shonen Sunday magazine after seven years and 323 installments in December 2007. He then announced last May that he is no longer doing work for Shogakukan or Weekly Shonen Sunday. In a lawsuit he filed last June, Raiku revealed that Shogakukan returned his original manga artwork after Konjiki no Gash!! ended, but five color art pieces were missing. He successfully sued the company for 2.55 million yen (about US$26,000) and an apology in November, although he originally asked for 3.3 million yen (US$34,000).
