Hekiru Hikawa to End Pani Poni Manga, Plan 'Episode 0'
posted on by Egan Loo
Manga creator Hekiru Hikawa announced in a April 18 blog entry that he will end his Pani Poni gag comedy manga after 159 installments, 12 compiled volumes, and nine years. The story revolves around Rebecca Miyamoto, a 11-year-old child prodigy from Columbia University who ends up teaching an oddball high school class in Japan. The manga is ending after running in Square Enix's Monthly G Fantasy magazine since 2000. However, Hikawa revealed in his blog that he is developing a new "episode 0" project. The creator himself does not know all the details of the new project and cannot describe it further, since he is still at the start of the creative process for it.
In 2005, the GANSIS and SHAFT studios animated a 26-episode series which ADV Films (and later Funimation) released in North America. Hikawa drew his one-shot Rukia in the room comedy manga for the inaugural issue of Kodansha's Monthly Shōnen Rival magazine last March.
