posted on by Mikhail Koulikov
The New York City branch of the Kinokuniya Japanese bookstore chain will host a special appearance by Yūji Nunokawa, the founder of the anime production house Studio Pierrot (Bleach, Naruto, Fushigi Yuugi), on August 9. Since launching the company in 1979, Nunokawa has served as its president and worked as a producer on dozens of Pierrot's shows. During his speech, which is set to start at 4:00 p.m., Nunokawa will talk about the history of the company and share his experiences working on some of anime's most well-known and successful titles. Kinokuniya will be giving away free 2008 New York Anime Festival passes at Nunokawa's appearance.
Since the new store opened last fall, it has been the venue for several events related to Japanese popular culture, including a press conference by Slam Dunk and Vagabond manga creator Takehiko Inoue, an appearance by the pop duo HALCALI, and a Lolita and Maid Fashion Day. The bookstore is located at 1073 Avenue of the Americas.
