HALCALI to Appear at Anime Central, Nabeshin at A-Kon
posted on by Egan Loo
Anime Central officially announced that the Japanese pop hip-hop duo HALCALI will perform during the May 16–18 convention at Rosemont, Illinois. Japan's Sports Hochi newpaper had previously reported that HALCALI would perform an unnnamed event in the Chicago area in that month. The duo's two members, Yucali and halca, have released 11 singles and four albums since 2005, and are planning to release a CD in America in May. In anime, the two performed several theme songs including Eureka Seven's "Tip Taps Tip" ending theme and Demashitaa! Powerpuff Girls Z's "Look" ending theme.
Separately, Project A-Kon announced late last month that fan-favorite director Shinichi Watanabe will appear at that convention in Dallas, Texas from May 30 to June 1. Watanabe, or "Nabeshin," is best known for directing Excel Saga, Puni Puni Poemi, Nerima Daikon Brothers, and other anime, but he also voiced an exaggerated version of himself in some of his works. Like the real Nabeshin, the fictional Nabeshin sports a huge afro and has an offbeat sense of humor.
