Spirited Away Voted #3 Foreign Film in British Poll
posted on by Egan Loo
Pearl & Dean, a British film advertising firm, announced the results of an audience survey it commissioned, and Hayao Miyazaki's Spirited Away (Sen to Chihiro no Kamikakushi) was voted the third most popular foreign film among British audiences. The fantasy anime film tied with Ang Lee's multi-national adaptation of the Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (Wòhǔ Cánglóng) martial arts novel. The top vote-getter was Guillermo del Toro's surreal Pan's Labyrinth (El Laberinto del Fauno) fantasy from Mexico, followed by Jean-Pierre Jeunet's Amélie (Le Fabuleux Destin d'Amélie Poulain) slice-of-life film from France. Fernando Meirelles and Kátia Lund's City of God (Cidade de Deus), which adapted a gritty semiautobiographical account of life in the Brazilian slums, rounded out the top five. Spirited Away was the only animated film on the top ten list.
