Japanese Manga File-Sharer Sentenced to Year in Prison

A Kyoto court in Japan sentenced a 29-year-old Osaka man that uploaded unauthorized images of manga magazines online to a one-year prison term and three years of probation. Judge Atsushi Miwa cited the importance of maintaining the creative basis for which copyright owners put in their expense and effort. The prosecution had recommended a one-year prison sentence.
