Azureus to Distribute Anime from Manga Entertainment
posted on by Christopher Macdonald
Following the recent announcement that Bittorent Inc had signed a deal with Kadokawa Pictures USA (who own the rights to Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid and the Melancholy of Harihi Suzumiya, as well as many live-action properties) to distribute unspecified Kadokawa Pictures titles online, Azureus Inc., The makers of popular BitTorrent software Azureus, have announced a similar deal with Manga Entertainment parent company, Starz Media.
Azureus will distribute Starz Media properties via it's Zudeo platform.
The Azureus press release specifically mentions that Street Fighter Alpha, Ghost in the Shell, Astro Boy and Ninja Scroll will be available from the service later this year.
Like BitTorrent Inc's BitTorrent Retail Marketplace, Zudeo, which is currently in public testing stages, uses BitTorrent open-source, peer-to-peer technology to distribute media. BitTorrent Retail Marketplace is, as the name implies, geared towards being a "pay to download" service, however Azureus has made no mention of how much, if anything at all, will be charged for titles.
