Third time not the charm for AMPAS
Hayao Miyazaki has turned down an invitation to the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, according to Studio Ghibli producer Toshio Suzuki, who held a press conference on Friday.
"He was actually requested three times," Suzuki said. "He does not seem to be glad with it because [he thinks] it seems to mean his retirement is near. Miyazaki's thought, 'I want to be as active as possible,' seems to be strong."
