"Choose Your Own Adventure" Style DVDs from Hirameki
Diamond Book Distributors has announced that it will distribute Hirameki Internationale's Anime Play interactive DVD titles to bookstores, libraries and other book-trade outlets.
Borrowing their name from Hirameki's Anime Play magazine, on hiatus since late 2004, the Anime Play DVDs combine "choose your own adventure" with anime and manga on DVDs.
Popularized in Japan with dating-sims, chose your own adventure anime style games have been available in Japan for many years. While some of the Anime Play games are of the romance genre, others are action oriented and none contain adult content.
The games are playable on any DVD-player equipped TV, computers with DVD-roms, and DVD based/compatible console machines such as the PS2 and X-Box.
Anime Play's flagship title, Phantom of Inferno, was rated Japan's #1 anime PC game by Game Forum. Some of the DVDs have been available for over a year now, however Hirameki is launching an expanded marketing program this year to re-introduce the games to a wider North American market.
