Russian Animator Honored by Japan

Mosnews Reports that Yuri Norstein, a famous Russian animator and director, has been awarded the Order of the Rising Sun by the Japanese government for “remarkable services to Japan.” Norstein directed his first film in 1968, his work was notable for using special techniques to create an illusion of 3-dimensional depth. His 1979 film, Tale of Tales, was voted the best animated film of all time by an international panel of critics in 1984.
