New movie to be released worldwide in Spring 2003
According to a Japanese article in Sponichi, work on a new Appleseed movie is set to be started soon. The movie should be released in Japan, the United States and Europe sometime next spring.
Ant Appleseed OAV, based on the popular manga by Shirow Masamune (Ghost in the Shell), was created in 1988 and is available in North America on DVD and VHS from Manga Entertainment. Shirow Masamune's Appleseed manga is also available from Dark Horse.
The story takes place after World War III, when the remaining governments of the devastated Earth Create a perfect city watched over by the perfect Biodroids - half-robot, half-human. Life in this city, Olympus, is carefully controlled, and the humans who live there are fed up. Leading to terrorist organizations who plot to destroy Olympus.
