Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation Vs Zion DX, Initial D, a more anime-like King of Fighters and more.
According to Magic BoxBanpresto announced that they will release the PlayStation 2 port of their arcade battle game Mobile Suit Gundam: Federation Vs Zion DX in Japan on December 6. The PS2 port will feature online battles via the KDDI matching system, up to 4 players can battle on one game. There are also new 1P Mission Mode, One on One and Two on Two team battle modes.
Idea Factory, the studio behind video game series including Run=Dim and Spectral Force, is at work on a PlayStation 2 action game titled Gunhearts. The play mechanics and game story seem to be roughly the same as the much-hyped but critically and commercially unsuccessful American "anime-style" PlayStation 2 game Oni. The game places the player in the role of a male or female member of the counter-terrorist team Sleep Sheep. Players must engage enemies with hand-to-hand combat or weapons, and can even wrestle weapons out of the hands of enemies. Gunhearts is due out in Japan this winter.
Racing anime Initial D has spawned another game... Initial D: Typing of Speed. The game will be released on October 4th for 4800 yen. Furing each stage you have to defeat the enemy by racing, the more accurate you type the faster your car will run and get pass the enemy.
Eolith and SNK have unveiled information about The King Of Fighters 2001", and character design and art has taken a decidely anime inspired turn. See Man Man Cafe's report at here. Especially note Korea's Mei-Lin, and Kula.
Samurai fans should take note of the rumors that Lightweight is planning to port their fighting game Kengo 2: Legacy of the Blade to PlayStation 2, after the XBox edition is released, and see IGN's preview of Kabuki Warrior, a more realistic samurai game with a very interesting system that includes "Samurai Reputation".
