In his "Otaku no Mailbag" section, Jeff Kleist reported Wednesday that the Princess Mononoke DVD will contain the Japanese audio track and that Buena Vista will not be using the English script for the subtitled track. Instead, the subtitles will consist of a more literal translation.
Quoting the Buena Vista representatives:
"In having your question checked out - I was informed that the English subtitles on the Mononoke DVD are literal English translations of the Japanese dub."
