Cardcaptors Preview
posted on
As many of you already know, Card Captor Sakura will begin airing on many WB stations across America, starting Saturday, June 17th.
Unfortunately, according to this article on ActionZine, the numerous diehard fans of Card Captor Sakura will be left watching an altered husk of the original Japanese series.
One choice quote from the article is this:
"Cardcaptors" is produced in what anime fans call "shojo," or girl's style. This means more emphasis is placed on characterization and lusher backgrounds than shojo's counterpart, the more action-oriented "shonin" or boy's style. If this sounds sexist, you're right. As a result, Kids WB and importer Nelvana are editing and reassembling the episodes to better fit what they feel are American tastes.
The episode slated to air on June 17th is "Sakura's Rival", which is assumed to be the 8th episode of the Japanese series. No information is available as to when (or IF) the first 7 episodes will air.
