Hideaki Anno injured in escalator accident
posted on
Hideaki Anno, director of the enormously popular Neon Genesis Evangelion series, was injured Friday in an accident in a Tokyo train station. Injuries sustained in the accident have caused him to cancel a trip to an anime convention in Australia, AussieCon.
The injuries were caused by a fall down an escalator during rush hour, injuring his head to the point of needing seven stitches. His leg was also injured, but as the head injury is causing headaches, doctors have prescribed bedrest and further examinations.
"Given that this would have been his first visit to Australia, and that Mr. Anno was personally looking forward to meeting his fans on this trip, he apologizes to everyone concerned that he has had to break his promises, especially in such a manner as this," wrote Gainax International Liason Michael House in a public statement. "He is presently resting, and will send a personal letter of apology once he has recovered."
