Fabled animation company Studio Ghibli (makers of everything from Princess Mononoke to Grave of the Fireflies) will open its own museum, to be designed by head director Hayao Miyazaki. According to the December 18th edition of Asahi Shinbun, the museum will be located in the Mitaka City district of the Tokyo Prefecture, and will open at some point in 2001.
The project, which will cost upwards of 2 billion yen, is being contracted by Musseo-Darte-Ghibli, a new division of Tokuma Shoten established on December 14.
"I want to announce the model of the museum next March," said Suzuki Toshio, the director of the Tokuma Publishing. Miyazaki Goro, the president of the Musseo-Darte-Ghigli said, "I want to make the museum attractive enough to be Ghibli."
