One Piece Voice Actors Mayumi Tanaka, Kappei Yamaguchi Try Becoming Virtual YouTubers with Hilarious Results
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Virtual YouTubers are all the rage in Japan, and One Piece voice actor Kappei Yamaguchi (Usopp) and voice actress Mayumi Tanaka (Luffy) wanted to get in on the action. The two released a video on Saturday where they try becoming virtual YouTubers.
In the 10-minute video, the two use motion capture to make 3D animated versions of their One Piece characters move onscreen. Some of the various exercises and goofy antics the two get into in the video include posing like their characters, dancing, acting like a manzai comedy duo, playing rock-paper-scissors, balancing on one leg, doing a "kancho" (think Kakashi's "One Thousand Years of Death" move from Naruto), acting out scenes from The One Piece anime, and playing charades. In the final charade about "Who" is "Doing What" "Where," Tanaka correctly guesses "In Skypeia, Vivi is imitating a Celestial Dragon."
In the final minute of the episode, the two advertise the upcoming One Piece: Episode of Sorajima (Skypeia) special that will air on August 25.
One Piece celebrated its 21st anniversary on "One Piece Day" on July 22 (although the manga actually launched on July 19, 1997, it was advertised as launching on July 22).
