Finish Your Meal with Potato Stew-Flavored Popsicles
posted on by Bamboo Dong
Hey, who says you can't eat your dessert first. Just... tell them it's soup.
Garigari-kun is one of Japan's most beloved popsicles. Created and manufactured by ice cream company Akagi Nyugyo, it's basically just flavored shaved ice, encased in a delicious ice candy shell. For those who like their desserts to be sweet and safe, the popsicles come in flavors like strawberry milk, mango, Cola, grapefruit, and what have you. But, for those who are more adventurous and accepting of what qualifies as "dessert," there are special flavors. Last year, they made a "rich corn potage" flavor.
This year, beginning October 29, customers will be able to enjoy the latest flavor of Garigari-kun&$8212"rich Aunt Claire stew." Developed as a follow-up to the now-infamous corn potage-flavored ice pop, this new flavor is a collaboration with Aunt Claire Stew, made by rival confectionery company Glico. In particular, these new popsicles sport the taste of Aunt Claire's potato stew... and even have real potato (sourced from Hokkaido, the potato capital of Japan!) blended right in.
Each stew-pop (soupsicle?) is going to sell for around 126 yen, so it's probably worth trying at least once.
