Real-Life British Model for House in Kin-iro Mosaic (Kinmoza!) Revealed
posted on by Andrew Osmond
The website Otaku News has posted an article on an English farmhouse that was the basis for one of the English locations in the new series Kin-iro Mosaic, also known as Kinmoza! Fosse Farmhouse, a Bed & Breakfast, is located in the Wiltshire Cotswolds near the village Castle Combe. (It has its own website here.)
The farmhouse was the model for the home of Alice, the English girl who is one of the main characters in Kin-iro Mosaic. The house's owner, Caron Cooper, showed members of the anime's production team around the building, and also showed them how to bake scones (represented in the anime). As well as running the farmhouse, Cooper also travels to Japan to teach British cooking and tea-etiquette.
The Otaku News article includes photos of the real building, showing how it is represented in the anime. According to the article, "Studio GENCO chose Fosse farm because they wanted a location that was instantly recognisable as British." Cooper's car, a Morris Minor, also figures in the series.
Yui Hara's original 4-panel manga's story begins with Shinobu, a 15-year-old, seemingly "pure Japanese" girl who actually did a homestay in Great Britain. Even after coming back to Japan, she still misses her time overseas. One day, an air mail letter arrives from Alice, the girl in Shinobu's host family in Great Britain. The letter reads, "Shinobu, I'm coming to Japan!" The "Japanese/British girls' mixed comedy" follows the lives of Shinobu, Alice, and other girls from both Japan and Great Britain.
Tensho (Rewrite's opening animation director, designs) will be directing the anime at Studio Gokumi (NAKAIMO - My Little Sister Is Among Them!, Dansai Bunri no Crime Edge) from scripts by Yuniko Ayana (Ground Control to Psychoelectric Girl, Bakuman.). Kazuyuki Ueda (NAKAIMO - My Little Sister Is Among Them! chief animation director) will be handling the character designs.
The anime began airing in Japan on Saturday. Crunchyroll will stream the anime in several regions as it airs, including Britain, under the title Kinmoza!
