Dragon Ball's Toriyama Draws Kids' Environmentalist Manga
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
Dragon Ball creator Akira Toriyama created a manga pamphlet to introduce children to environmentalist issues. Oishii Shima no U-sama (Delicious Island's Mr. U) follows two men from the city who decide to protect a pristine island from alien invaders looking to exploit its natural resources.
The project was conceived by Anjo's Rural Society Project, a nonprofit organization that organizes extracurricular activities for young children on the importance of agriculture and nature. The group asked Toriyama to create a pamphlet, which expanded into a 24-page short story. Issues are being distributed by the Anjo city government at environmental lecturers and other events.
Toriyama recently developed the story for the Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods film. The film debuted on March 30 as the top non-U.S. film overseas during its opening weekend.
