Android Girl-Themed Café Opens in Tokyo
posted on by Karen Ressler
An android girl-themed café and bar has opened in Akasaka, Tokyo. The café, called "Androidol" (a combination of "android" and "idol"), is staffed by girls dressed as androids from the future.
The café is based on the concept that the android girls working as staff members were not originally created with emotions and feelings, and need to be "programmed" by interacting with customers. A number of different android "models" work at Androidol Café, including moe, tsundere, high school student, and little sister types, providing someone for every kind of customer.
The café also features musical performances, with some of the android girls singing and dancing several times throughout the day. The café features a bar where customers can watch the performances while choosing from the café's large liquor selection. The bar was installed specifically to attract office workers on their way home, due to the café being located in the business district of Akasaka.
Androidol Café is open from 5:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on weekdays, and 12:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m. on weekends and holidays. Admission is 1,000 yen (US$10.70) for 20 minutes.
