North American video game publisher Aksys Games began streaming a trailer on Tuesday for its upcoming release of the Hakuōki: Warriors of the Shinsengumi action-adventure game for the PlayStation Portable. The video focuses on the six main playable characters in the game.
Aksys Games will release the game in North America on February 19. Those who pre-order the game through Amazon will receive a Hakuōki headband. Packaging includes a 16-page full-color character guide featuring art from the game. Idea Factory originally released the game in Japan under the name Hakōki: Bakumatsu Musōroku in March 2012.
In the game, players will be able to play as one of the six main characters from the original Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom PSP game in an alternate storyline. The players can play out the events from the original game or change the story. Aksys Games originally released the Hakuoki: Demon of the Fleeting Blossom PSP game in February 2012.
The game franchise from Idea Factory has spawned numerous anime adaptations. The Hakuōki anime franchise includes the 12-episode Hakuōki series, the 10-episode sequel series Hakuōki Hekketsu-roku, the 12-episode Hakuōki Reimeiroku prequel series, and the six-episode Hakuōki Sekkaroku OAV series. The franchise also includes two upcoming films that will premiere this summer.
The story of the game and its anime adaptations center around the historical Shinsengumi samurai group in Kyoto during the 19th century.
Sentai Filmworks has licensed the three television anime series and OVA series for release in North America.
