Fruits Basket Helmer Daichi Makes Live-Action TV Special
posted on by Crystalyn Hodgkins
Director Akitarō Daichi (Fruits Basket, Kodocha, Poyopoyo, Kamisama Kiss) is directing the upcoming live-action comedy television special Me-Edo Café (a pun on the words 'maid café'). The special takes place during the Genroku era (1688-1704) of Japan's peaceful Edo period. In a certain domain in a certain castle town, there exists a very strange yet very popular shop, the "Me-Edo Café." A group of odd people — including a vagabond named Hidetsugu, a rōnin who is actually a princess named Moe, chief retainers, and ninja — gather at the café.
The main cast for the special consists of voice actors who have previously worked with Daichi on his Poyopoyo television anime series. Voice actress Suzuko Mimori (Yuruyuri's Himawari Furutani, Kamisama Kiss' Nanami Momozono, Poyopoyo's Moe Satō) is starring in the special as Moe. Hidekazu Ichinose (Poyopoyo's Hide Satō, Kamisama Kiss' Aotake, Katekyo Hitman Reborn!'s Hayato Gokudera) is playing Hidetsugu. The special will also star Akira Kamiya (Macross' Roy Focker, Fist of the North Star's Kenshiro, Poyopoyo's Shigeru Satō) and Taichi Hamada (Poyopoyo, Salaryman Kintaro).
The special will premiere on Sun TV on January 1 at 10:00 p.m., and then will air on seven other television stations in Japan in January. Sun TV is currently streaming a television commercial (shown above) for the special.
