3D Hatsune Miku Shocks FamilyMart Customers in New Ad
posted on by Egan Loo
Japan's convenience store chain FamilyMart posted a new television commercial starring Hatsune Miku on Tuesday:
FamilyMart also posted two faux "blooper" clips from the supposed filming of the ad:
The ad promotes the "Hatsune Miku 5th Anniversary: Miku Loves FamiMa" campaign that runs from Tuesday to September 10. During the campaign, people who buy 500 yen or more of selected items will get a chance to win prizes, such as pre-paid cards, Sony Walkman digital music players, and the top prize: a Hatsune Miku original electric scooter.
The items in the campaign include mayonnaise o-musubi (rice balls), "Peyoung" salty onion yakisoba (fried noodles), and Yakitori Hachune's Chicken Burger.
Also, for the next 39 days (a wordplay on one way to pronounce "39" in Japanese as "miku"), FamilyMart stores will offer a different Hatsune Miku music video to visitors every day. To get each video, people must download the "grabee" app to their smartphone, run the app, and "wave" their phone in the store every day.
