AKB48+Me 3DS Game Lets Player Join the AKB48 Idol Group

This week's issue of Enterbrain's Weekly Famitsu magazine is revealing that Kadokawa Games will release a idol training simulation game called AKB48+Me on the Nintendo 3DS. Unlike the previous AKB48 "dating fantasy game," the new game will let the player become a member of the all-female group and experience the daily rigor of being an idol. Kadokawa Games plans to release the game this fall.

The player assumes the role of a member-in-training (kenkyūsei) and goes through the steps of becoming the next idol star, including performing onstage and appearing at handshake events with fans.

The description of the gameplay somewhat mirrors The IDOLM@STER franchise from Namco Bandai Games, as well as part of the story from AKB48's own science fiction anime AKB0048, in which a new generation of members-in-training join a guerilla idol group in a dystopian future.
