posted on by Jennifer Sherman
The anime studio TMS Entertainment began streaming a 92-second promotional video on Wednesday for the Norwegian illustrator Åshild Kanstad Johnsen's picture book Kubbe lager museum (Kubbe no Hakubutsukan in Japanese; Block makes a museum in English). Tetsuro Kodama (The Bears' School director, Mardock Scramble: The First Compression CGI director) directed the video.
Johnsen's story centers on a young boy log named Kubbe and his adventures in a natural setting. The publisher Fukuinkan Shoten will release the book with Reiko Hidani's translation for 1,365 yen (about US$17) in Japan on Sunday. This will be the Kubbe picture book series' debut in Japan, but the books have been previously published in France, Sweden, and South Korea.
As the first book in Johnsen's series, the Norwegian publisher Gyldendal first released Kubbe lager museum in May 2010. After the book appeared at the Bologna Children's Book Fair, TMS began negotiations to license the series and make related character goods for release in Japan.
Musashino, Tokyo's moi café will host the "Kubbe Kafé" from April 14 to May 6 to celebrate the Japanese release of Kubbe lager museum. The café will display Kubbe art, offer a Kubbe menu, and sell character goods such as postcards and handkerchiefs.
