Tomoko Kaneda Voices Virtual UTAU Singer
posted on by Jennifer Sherman
Shinyusha's Monthly Windows 100% magazine revealed on Thursday that voice actress Tomoko Kaneda (Azumanga Daioh, Please Teacher!, Air Master) will perform the character Kane Tomo for the UTAU song synthesizer software. Kane Tomo will join other UTAU virtual singers like Utane Uta (Defoko) and Momo Momone as the latest voice option for the freeware application. Kaneda's voice will be used to create voice data for the new character, which users can utilize for song renditions.
Invented by Ameya/AYAME, UTAU is a software program similar to Vocaloid but offered as free shareware instead of as a commercial product. UTAU is named after the Japanese word meaning "to sing" and has been distributed since March 2008. In addition to its provided character voice options, UTAU's "AquesTalk" feature allows any user to upload his or her own voice data for use within the program.
