Komekami! Moe Rice Promoted by 7 Sister 'Goddesses'
posted on by Lynzee Loveridge
The rice growers of Fukuoka Prefecture are offering a Koshino Nana Komekami! set of seven rice bags, each featuring a female "goddess." In the project's premise, an unnamed high school boy moves into a communal house — whose only other residents happen to be seven beautiful sisters, similar to harem gal games or bishōjo computer games.
The eldest of the sisters is the intellectual Sanae (22 years old), followed by the mysterious Minori (age unknown), the nurse Mei (20), the house caretaker Hikari (17), the part-time shrine maiden Momi (16), the café maid Mai (16), and the youngest sister Honoka (14). The website is holding a popularity contest on the sisters.
Fukuoka native and manga creator Takahiro Seguchi designed the characters; Seguchi is known for his series Oretama and Oyama! Kikunosuke! Another local manga creator, Mitsuhiro Kasuga (The Samurai), developed the story and setting of the project.
The set of 300-gram (about 11-ounce) rice bags, complete with a wooden box and one of 21 character cards, costs 3,980 yen (US$52). There are also furikake rice seasonings and separately sold character card sets. The members of the Moe Kenkyū Kyōkai are planning to add ramen and other items, and they are looking into the possibility of making original anime and games.
In 2008, Shuffle! character designer Aoi Nishimata created a mascot for UGO-machi township's rice bags and strawberries. The following year Sengoku Basara artist Chimaki Kuori created bishōnen rice bags for the Kamo Organic Rice Company. Most recently, the TBS Television network's online shop began selling 3.5 kilogram bags of K-ON! themed rice.
