Made into a series of NES games known as Top Secret Episode and The Mafat Conspiracy. Long before GTA, it was one of the first games to feature implied sexual situations and even violence with guns. Nintendo, being surprisingly lax about the content, only required that Koei make Golgo into a spy instead of an assassin. Also later made into an arcade game by Namco, who got sued by Konami for allegedly ripping off Silent Scope.
The Golgo story found in the second book from Viz- "Hydra"-is the basis for one of the sub-plots featured in the anime, "The Professional". Ironically, in this installment, Golgo chooses to use the monicker "Leon", which is also the name of the assassin Jean Reno played in his own film known as "The Professional".
Duke Togo's alias "Golgo 13" is derived from "Golgotha," the site of Jesus Christ's crucifixion; hence the symbol of a skeleton wearing a crown of thorns.
