Trivia:

The staff working on this film thought about setting it 300 years after the events in "Space Battleship Yamato" Anime preceding this and having decendents of the original Yamato crew as the story's focus. But then feeling that "Space Battleship Yamato" would never be the same without the Yamato's original crew, this movie would instead be made to depict an adventure that was only a few years after the events of the first "Space Battleship Yamato" T.V. series.
