Creator Yuu Watase demanded that the voice actor for character Tamahome be Hikaru Midorikawa because his voice fits the character so well.
Yuu Watasae claims that while she was writing Fushigi Yuugi, she preferred Miaka to Yui, but when she finished, she decided she liked Yui better. She also claims to prefer Tamahome over Hotohori.
If you watch carefully, in Fushigi Yuugi, never once does a character from the real world have an odd haircolor.
Watase's favorite character is Nakago
In one of the early flashback scenes with Miaka and Yui as children, if you look the girls are playing with a Fuu doll from Magic Knight Rayearth.
