Amazon, Hachette Resolve Pricing Dispute
posted on by Rachel Mahoney
Amazon and Hachette Books settled their dispute with a multiyear agreement on Thursday. As part of the agreement, Hachette will set its own prices for both ebooks and print books.
The dispute went public in May. Both Amazon and Hachette, along with Hachette's manga imprint Yen Press, were suffering in sales from the dispute, which involved Amazon limiting pre-orders on Hachette titles and buying less inventory than normal.
Both companies reported they were satisfied with the deal.
Amazon recently settled its dispute with CBS-owned Simon & Schuster in early November by forming an agreement with the publisher to lower prices in order to boost sales. Simon & Schuster distributes Viz Media manga publications in North America.
