Thank you for the review. Well written.
I haven't picked up any of the volumes of this title. I haven't heard about it until seeing this review published on the site. I will pick up this title and I think it will be one I will pleasantly enjoy.

I really, really enjoyed this series. In this omnibus in particular, I was pleasantly surprised by how much I ended up caring for characters like Akemiya and the first year girls. I didn't think much of them at first, but by the end I really did come to like them.

Quote:
I personally am not a fan of writing the English text in out-of-bubble speech right next to or on top of the unaltered Japanese text

Thank you for saying this. There were a lot of errors in the book, but this was the one that always bugged me the most. I can understand leaving text outside speech bubbles untranslated(although it doesn't usually work for me), but not translating speech in bubbles is confusing. Thankfully, this was kept to relatively unimportant bits of dialogue.

I want to thank One Peace Books for making this available, I was able to buy & read all three volumes and they now occupy a prominent place on my shelves.

Having Ushio & Sumika's story presented so well, and first hand experience with how society refuses to accept even some otherwise conventional relationships, has made it easier to deal with my own family member's orientation.

There was an error in the first printing that left out an entire page and screwed up two-page spreads, but given the lack of mention I guess they've completely taken care of that. RightStuf still doesn't have a solicitation, but I guess I can at least order it somewhere else in peace now.

So there were actually multiple printings of this copy? Ugh. The errors really did a number on my enjoyment of this volume. I swear I found at least one on every page. It made me wonder if it had been edited at all. Is this why it was never listed on Right Stuf? I buy practically everything anime/manga related from there and this had me confused.

I don't know if I want to buy another copy of the volume, but I'll definitely be waiting before more potential buys from One Peace Books.

If I hadn't already read the scanlations, I wouldn't be buying this; I really wish somebody else had gotten it. I'd call this workmanship amateur-hour, but that'd be an insult to amateurs. Normally I'd welcome additional competition in the marketplace and the additional manga they'd bring in English, but only if they shape up on the editing front, with strong emphasis on quality control. The translation was competent enough, though, and with the right peers I can imagine the one responsible for it going places.

I ended up buying the English editions even though I have more intolerance for errors than in the past. Fortunately I held off long enough on getting copies that I ended up with second printings for the first two omnibuses. It is a really nice series. This last omnibus especially had a lot of great moments.

But oh the quirks of the series' release. Like the mentioned not erasing Japanese text and just putting English text next to the bubble or over it. Not only does it clutter up panels it comes off as cheap and lazy to me. It's also a weird practice comparing sfx are footnoted in margins sometimes too. Like how much text is too much? Whispered Words is also available as eBooks. I would have rather bought those but, the ones I could were apparently hi-res so I didn't feel like resizing to fit my tablet's screen every time I turned the page either.

Still thankful I suppose someone brought this out in English. Hopefully One Peace learns a lot, because I would like more of this type of comic in the future in English. Still I don't know if I will put up with being frustrated with similar quality for long.

Oh, I wonder if that explains a point maybe over halfway thru and on where I was wondering if pages should have been across from each other instead of back-to-back. I think I have a first printing of the last omnibus (despite receiving it in April, others had it in January) since it doesn't show dates like my other copies. But, I'm not entirely sure if my copy was affected since I don't have individual volumes of the later books to compare. This is the first I've heard anyone bring the page layout up so I'm not sure how widespread any issues might be. Sad

Good luck with purchasing a copy.

Considering that One Peace Books recently picked up one of my favorite light novel series the numerous errors in this volume make me extremely nervous.

Here's a photo someone posted while complaining about it, so that should give you a quick point of comparison to confirm if your copy is one of those where they accidentally a page. They didn't announce a replacement program that I'm aware of, though.

^Well, crud, looks like I got an incorrect one. Not a big issue, but I'm definitely going to have to replace it at some point. I really loved this series - after I had all of the volumes, read it all in a week - so I'm fine with a repurchase. The errors were occasionally distracting, and I hope they get better QC in the future, but I'd rather have books with some QC errors than no books at all.

Now, I'd just really like a full English release of Aoi Hana.

I'll have to check my copy but I got it before release date so I bet it's wonky :/ Count me in for a print release of Aoi Hana too.

Thanks! Yep my copy is wrong. Hopefully there are mostly better copies out there now. Very discouraging.

Oh I practically forgot about that. The eBook of Vol. 1 from DMG was a bit of a mess too. Sad I wish yuri series could get better treatment in English. (Well, too many titles I could say the same thing for really.)

I got an incorrect volume 3 as well, but I see no need to replace it. I guess I'm fortunate that such things seem really minor to me and I am not as bothered by it as some people are.

I wish to strenuously agree with this.

That's an understatement. The version I got from Amazon is just a series of thumbnails that you have to tap on one at a time to view at full size. You'd think a company called "Digital Manga" would be able to format an ebook correctly.

Seven Seas is doing a good job at least, and Citrus has been hitting the bestseller list so hopefully they'll keep at it.

Seven Seas are doing a really nice job with their recent yuri acquisitions. I've got v1 of Citrus but not read it yet. Girl Friends, Gakuen Polizi and Kisses, Sighs... are all done really nicely and it looks like they've put time and care into them.
