Can I have an anime of this? Please? It looks beautiful and the short story they made in such little time was just...perfect.

Even in a two-minute ad Makoto Shinkai is able to express so many feelings, and set an amazingly vivid atmosphere. The fact that Nagi Yanagi was singing in the background just made it even better.

Ugh, watching this made me wish for some news on a new Shinkai flick so bad Laughing.

Can you really make an anime movie or TV show of such a subject, and still make money off it. Subject matter not really conducive to mass interest, unless you add love drama, love rivals, and evil villains to the mix.

It is nice that he is staying paying the bills with work such as this, and hopefully it allows him to make more movies.

They are also offering a 3D version of this.
And for some reason, 1080p is only offered in flash player mode. If you switch to the html5 player, you only get 720p max.

It's Japan, few people there wouldn't be able to relate to this on some level. You're looking at this with Hollywood goggles on, Shinkai doesn't need to resort to cheap tropes to make a good movie. All of his movies are about relaying emotions which was the case with movies like Voice of a Distant Star, 5 Centimeters per Second, and the Garden of Words; all of which could probably be considered purely love dramas, but none were done in conventional ways. Only This Place Promised in our Early Days and Children Who Chase Lost Voices had characters that could be viewed as villains.

If anyone can make a movie about studying that the masses will want to see it's Shinkai.

Very pretty, I think I'd actually prefer a film version of this over most of his recent works, but getting the budget to a do a theatrical length movie with that detailed art would probably be unlikely. As long as none of the "LONG DISTANCE RELATIONSHIPS: THE ULTIMATE SADNESS, CRY NOW" doesn't occur. Shinkai's already beat that horse.

Hmm should I watch his past works to know what to expect or just go blindly into this movie hoping the best??? I'm just asking for a honest opinion is all.

Are you asking about a specific movie of his? Because this is just an advertisement.

Any of his work in general is what I'm asking. Again this relates to long distance relationships etc.

Quite a few of his early works featured some kind of long distance relationship, whether it was a literal long distance (as in, lightyears away), different towns, or in his more recent films, a separation of age/class. Personally, I'd just jump right in with whatever summary intrigues you. Some are hits and miss in terms of story, but they all have great animation and a strong, earnest feel to them.

I agree with you, and the type of story is also just up Shinkai's alley too.
