Normally I'd be excited for this, but Sentai's recent dubs have made me very wary...

...But the cast looks good.

Last I checked (forgive me if I'm utterly wrong, though), you didn't seem to have as many qualms with the Utena dub as many others have, and Foster's work in in these past several years easily beats that. You seem fine with the Canaan dub, which is also Foster stuff. Considering that it'll probably be free of excess Fosterization here script-wise, due to how it's been like that with his past several shows (if anything, Penguindrum, for instance, was extremely faithful), and how the two leads are quite well-respected in the VA community, I'd be surprised if this dub really turned out offensive.

I agree.......I mean I'm a person who doesn't care about the Voices or pronunciation but when i saw the the dubbed version of battlegirls Time paradox I was really mad at Sentai. It was a horrible.

I wonder why doesnt sentai dub Nyan Koi. Its good in terms of comedy and visuals

I sort of wish you would stop being such an apologist for Foster. Sure, he has done some nice work in the past, but he has also done some real stinkers. I don't blame people at all for being apprehensive. I never can tell which "Foster" I'm going to get.

Whelp, kinda got me there, though that generalization lacks nuance. Smile I know that there's some apprehension with any dub he produces nowadays; hell, I'm not exactly excited that he's gonna be doing the Kids on a Slope dub myself (though it's hard for me to imagine him being truly lackadaisical with a show that's openly associated with Cowboy Bebop, which will inevitably bring to mind the latter's critically acclaimed dub. And it's in a period setting to boot). I have familiarity with the notions/practices of good Foster and bad Foster, BUT what I've seen of him recently never invoked terribly negative opinions on my side... somewhat average at the least, maybe, but nothing atrocious to me. I think the only reason I bothered to say anything was that going off what (relatively little, I'm sure) I know or presume to know of SpacemanHardy's tendencies-- that he's more able to see and generally appreciate an anime when it's dubbed, that he doesn't think of some dubs as negatively as many others do (including at least one Foster dub)-- I found it interesting to see him still situate himself in the Be-wary-of-Foster corner. Though it was probably not my place to make such judgments, that is all I meant.

Edit: Yes, I'm quite aware of what happened in Guin Saga, and have seen that infamous collection of clips from the second part of Guin Saga a few times for good measure. Though not only has those eight minutes been my only significant exposure to the show, I've also heard from a few others that that outside those series-defiling clips the dub was actually quite decent, so I didn't mention it.

The most recent example I can think of is the dub he did for Giun Saga. My take on it was that he figured that since the author of the books was dead anyway, he could do what he wanted. (Like he was hoping someone would see this brilliant comedy act and realize that he should be hired as a sitcom writer so he could leave all this crappy anime stuff in the past). It was truly insulting.

Then again, He did Le Chevalier D'eon which was excellent.

My problem is that he seems to give uneven effort, depending on whatever is factoring into his mood or circumstances when he gets into the studio. I always feel a little trepidation when I try out one of his dubs for the first time, especially if it is a show that I liked enough to buy. I don't know what I'm going to get from him since he is so unreliable. I never look forward to anything he does because of that.

Most other Texan VAs are shackled to the beast that is Funimation up in Ft. Worth, and outsourcing to California is usually only done in very special cases. Yeah, Sentai's in-house talent pool is definitely in need of new blood if they want to remain competitive.
