Severe punishment sounds reasonable, but how was this employee able to sneak these out the theater without anyone noticing that several strips were missing the first day and or anyone seeing him?
If this guy were smart he would take the money he earned and leave town though.

Hey if those people were smart, they'll be engineers or doctors making way more than they steal.

Given the auctions ended abruptly it sounds like they were cancelled and he earned zip. As to how he could sneak out, well it would be very easy, most workplaces have very lax security. And who knows it is very possible it was remainder stock; were there really that many people who wanted to watch a film three times? And he just walked off with them because noone really knew what to do with them, but head office doesn't take kindly to him trying to profit from that obviously.

Just because he was an employee of the theater chain doesn't mean he was an usher or a register operator at a theater. He could have been an employee at the corporate office, maybe even someone in the public affairs department that created the promotional material in the first place.

Most hard-core fans would just buy the tickets to get the strips without bothering to watch the movie.

Last time I watched a film three times in a theater was Back To The Future in 1985 (and perhaps a couple others in my life).
