While I'm happy to see a live action it saddens me that shoujo mangas don't get TV animes anymore.

Shoujo mangas definitely do get TV anime still though I agree still far and few in between.
Kyou Koi was disastrous when the OVAs came out and as a movie (let alone live action) I hope they don't mess this one up. It's got a nice plot and would love to see it get a full and well done adaptation.

it would be nice to see some of these live-action adaptations licensed and released, sadly i imagine the market would be too niche but given the downturn of shoujo anime in favour of live-action adaptations instead i'm wondering if its worth a look at by someone, maybe going for one of the bigger L-A titles like the Kimi ni Todoke movie as a tester

If anything, I would suggest Hana Yori Dango live action over Kimi ni Todoke live action, though the former may set the bar a bit high in terms of expectations henceforth.

yh, there are several i'd rate over the KnT movie, but with the anime being fairly popular and making the franchise more well known i figured it's probably the easiest place to start to guage fan response

I've only read some of the manga but I loved the OVAs and I wish this had been turned into an anime series. I just want more decent shoujo.

Down-to-earth stories are easily translated to live-action, plus live-action costs are going down, while anime costs remain the same. And live-action reaches a wider audience than the animation ghetto.
