I'm sure those are great #s for Japan but seeing stuff like this always makes me remember the difference in population and market size between the US and other countries with movie industries other than India.

Yeah.. movies aren't really that major outside the US and Bollywood. Most movies in Japan don't make over 10 million USD.

But K-ON is doing pretty well for a non-mainstream anime. Especially for the limited amount of theaters it's playing in. It already made more than One Piece latest movie and is only .04 short of Naruto's latest movie.

Technically, K-On! does have a really wide appeal... far more than the Otaku crowd. Being a very safe and pleasant Anime that is devoid of any fan-service, heavy handed messages and controversial subject matter, it can and does appeal to females and children as well.

Pretty impressive run, all things considered. Especially the fact that it beat out the newest One Piece movie

One Piece latest movie made a whole lot more then 9million in the first nine days. you are comparing two day earnings to nine day earning.

but anyways, I want to see the movie, hopefully blu-ray/dvd comes out will buy a copy as well

Jump Heroes Movies (Toriko 3D & One Piece 3D) only made $8,410,203 .
