Does this mean Disney will no longer be licensing/distributing Ghibli titles? That make me kinda nervous. I know people like to complain that Disney takes forever to release those title but they have the budget and resources to do such a fantastic job. I know John Lasseter has developed a personal relationship with Hayao Miyazaki and is big fan of his. I hope GKIDS can meet our high expectations.

Disney still retains the home video rights for these films, and it still has all the distribution rights for the three most recent films with English dubs: Howl's Moving Castle, Ponyo, and Arrietty. (Neither Disney nor GKids has Grave of the Fireflies.)
Here is a sample of the films that GKids has released over the years.

Yeah, I guess I jumped to conclusions there, thanks for the explanation. Looking forward to seeing these films in theaters. Of course they probably wont come to little old Idaho. :(

Can't say I didn't expect it. Ghibli left that control to Shinchosha, who produced it. Ala work-for-hire, Ghibli only made GotF --even went to Shinchosha to pay for the production-- in order to support Totoro.

For ya guys here who are fans of animation, The Secret of Kells and Sita Sings the Blues are some of their films you must see.

So does this mean that Disney still has the rights to Princess Mononoke? I know it's been in limbo since the Miramax library buyout from Lionsgate.
