Yup, people still follow this. (And still love it.)

I assume they will eventually do the 'New Prince of Tennis' as an anime but since the manga is only published monthly instead of weekly, they don't have enough material yet to start the series. They need enough buffer or they'll have to make a lot of filler episodes while they wait for enough material to make another episode. (Or so I presume.)

Of course people still follow Prince of Tennis. Prince of Tennis was~ popular enough to have a live action movie, live action musicals, and still have various character products that are still being released. It is a good series.. Has toooooo many likable characters.

If they started it now, they'd end up with filler arcs all over the place. Not to say that PoT filler isn't hilarious most of the time, but nobody wants to relive the American arc. xD

In any case, totally excited for this. :D I've been hoping something else would come out.

Here we go again... Yes, PoT is high-exaggerated tennis (though the whole "Tezuka killed the dinosaurs!" idea is strictly Konomi's fault; that's what happens when you let the animation studio do whatever the hell they want to do with your title and its characters), but that doesn't make it any less tennis.

Yes, it isn't as realistic, but that's all it's "less" of: realism. The moves they still do are tennis shots at their cores, the formations they take are still tennis formations. They still use tennis equipment to play these games, they still play within the rules of the game (though there more than likely is some slight bending or loopholing of the rules at times, but probably not always), and when you remove all of the over-the-top style, all of the ridiculous moments, and look at the core of these matches... They are still playing tennis in the end.

It's not like reading PoT is going to make people think that everything that's happening can actually happen in real life, only to get disappointed... If that was the case then PoT wouldn't have been the title that helped make tennis more popular in Japan during the first series' run in Weekly Shonen Jump. And, honestly, it takes someone who is a true fan of the sport he/she is making a story about to try to turn it into something that is his/her own distinctive creation. Why would Takeshi Konomi bother to keep the title going and continue to give the tennis in the title its own distinctive, if highly over-the-top and exaggerated, style if he honestly didn't enjoy the sport in real-life?

If you don't like this style then that's your choice; it's understandable and that's all you need to point out, but to try to put it down and not call it what it is, tennis in this case, is just silly and isn't going to get anyone anywhere. Honestly, I wouldn't have made this post if you just stuck with your "not good tennis" argument, as I can't really argue that outside of me saying "Well, at least it's enjoyable and fun to watch", but outright saying that it "isn't tennis", which it is when all is said and done, is outright wrong.

No, it's being released monthly now instead of weekly is simply because the new title runs in Jump Square, which is a monthly magazine, rather than in Weekly Shonen Jump.

Nothing more, nothing less.

Are you talking about amateur wrestling? If so then you're making sense to an extent, but even then what you're saying still doesn't quite work as well as you probably think it does.
