I take it Sazae-san didn't air that week, as it's usually #1.

Most likely, but wow, One Piece was only .3 share off from being #1.

Speaks volumes about the quality and longevity of the show. Never fails to entertain me and I'm sure the same goes for the Japanese viewing public. |

Just a small correction. The second season of Stitch! is actually airing on TV Asahi, rather than TV Tokyo. You can find the official site for the second season here.

I have to say I find these stories pretty uninteresting because they're almost always limited to the most popular shows. There are often viewing data available for the rest of the anime telecasts on other sites, both Japanese and English, which are far more informative for those of us interested in the late-night, small-audience shows. Even the most popular shows in this segment like Fuji's Noitamina offerings typically won't get into the ANN lists because they rarely break a rating of four. Most of the otaku shows run in the 1-3% range and thus never appear in these listings on ANN.

Consider it a weekly reality check as to what shows are actually popular. I personally find it fascinating to follow, particularly how specials do and to see shows like Thriller Restaurant, or before that the Yatterman remake, break through. |

The issue with the viewing data on other sites is that they ultimately come from unverifiable, anonymous sources in Japan. The TV ranking data on ANN come directly from the Video Research firm. Any weekly TV ranking data you see on the Internet that goes beyond Video Research's officially released data on ANN comes from nameless secondary sources, even if they credit Video Research. These other data sources can't be verified, even after the fact. On those other sites, ask the posters where they get the data and how they verify the data. |

Good to see One Piece ranking that high. But, Thriller Restaurant? Was it the first episode or something, to get that place?

Third episode I believe. It's been increasing it's rating each week since it's debut. Remember, it's based on a popular and long running series of storybooks, so there's a built in fanbase and familiarity already there. |
