I swear Micah Solusod really sounds like Johnny Yong Bosch in that clip; it's almost kind of freaky!
Laura Bailey already sounds better than the Japanese VA as well. |

I'm usually get really nitpicky about english dubs so I barely know anything about american dubbing industry.
But Maka's VA sounds actually really good, even better than original to be honest. And I'm saying this as a person who doesn't even consider english dubs as an option. Even Soul sounds pretty okay, way better than in average english dubbing. If this is where english anime dubbing is headed, I wouldn't mind watching english dubbed anime once in a while. |

Agreed on both. Micah really sounds a lot like JYB, but that seems to be the sound that fans want these days. His Soul Eater (even from this short clip) sounds to be pretty much on par with the Japanese version, deep and condescending without being overly cocky. I was really worried that they'd try to make him more energetic and youthful sounding to appeal towards a younger teen audience which would have been a big failure. Bailey's Maka seems to be spot on for the character. She's kinda girly, but still very assertive sounding as she should be, IMO. Still, there's a lot of characters left to go and they're all extremely quirky which can be kinda hard to cast and probably even harder to perform. Characters like Shinigami (they changed his name to "Lord Death"!?), Stein, and Black Star could make or break this dub. Also there's a few characters here that make animal sounds, I'm curious if the go with the Japanese sounds or the English ones (but that's kinda minor really). Emerje |

You can hear Shinigami, Stein, and Black Star's dub voices on the skit from NYAF that Funimation posted on their Youtube channel. Black Star's dub voice is dead-on perfect. |

Wow, one still. Thanks KyoAni, this totally makes up for Endless Eight!
Perhaps the trailer is more informative than we'd like to think. Perhaps the whole film will be composed of a small number of stills, and the camera will scroll about them as voice actors read their lines. After EE, nothing can be ruled out as just too absurd.

What's sad about Soul Eater to me is that... even if the dub is spot on. I still won't be able to watch it... I've watched the subtitled episodes since it first came out that I've gotten so use to it that any other voices on it just sound... weird. I'll give it a try at the very least.

I'm the same way about it. I read a chapter in the one issue of Yen+ that I bought, and it was pretty interesting, but I don't watch fansubs so I don't know much about it. I also thought it was Johnny Yong Bosch up until around 1:45, where he says "but being a weapon isn't what the problem is here....". I liked both characters featured in the dub, and hopefully the rest of them match up as well. |
