Hm, no other replies.

Anyway, I checked out the manga (prequel) for this series and I found it enjoyable, it has a good mix of serious and silly, which is what I like. If the anime is like the manga than I'll definately be picking up the boxset. As I've been keeping an eye on this series since I first saw previews for it on my Melancholy of Haruhi Suyzumiya DVDs. (I just didn't want to buy singles) Razz

Glad to see that its finally getting a box set. Just like you, Super_Vegeta I saw trailer (and thankfully it was a real trailer and not a creditless opening like way too many companies seem to be doing now) on the Haruhi Suzumiya DVDs and thought it was interesting. This is going on my "to buy" list now that there's a box set coming.

Yeah, lucky for me there also happened to be a manga series. So after seeing the trailer, for 10 bucks I got to sample, the series.

Anyway, yeah I much prefer boxsets, they're cheaper and they're much more organzied and professional looking than having 5 or 6 single DVDs on a shelf. (I can be a bit OCD at times).

Now I just need to save up some money so I can get all the anime that I want this year. LOL

Oh yeah I've also got my fingers crossed that season 2 of Haruhi gets done at some point. Smile

About time, RightStuf and Kadokawa!

And to think that I ordered vol. 1 from a record store at some strip mall near my house, and was considering buying the rest of the series in single discs. This is definitely going on my "to buy" list.

A RightStuf-licensed set...that has a dub. And Emma somehow didn't qualify, yet this sounds just as niche. Rolling Eyes

Genius, pure genius. The show sounds interesting, at least. Always good to see more boxed sets.

Well you gotta remember that this, Haruhi Suzumiya and quite a few other shows were handled by Kadokawa Pictures themselves, they only went to Bandai, RightStuf, and other companies for manufacturing and distribution. I believe Kadokawa paid for, supervised, and took care of everything else.

From the reviews I've seen, this seems like a real sleeper hit of a series. Now that it's out in this form, maybe I'll be able to pick it up at some point.

This is great news! I've had my eye on this series for quite some time now, even thought of picking it up in singles. Glad I decided to hold off though. This is definitely hitting my "To buy" list.

This is a Kadokawa release.
Look under TRSI--they're just listed as Distributor
KO Beast had a dub
as did Gravitation, Boogiepop, Comic Party, Dangaizer 3, Gakuen Alice, His & Her Circumstances, Captain Tylor, Ninja Nonsense, Shingu...
In fact, it'd probably be easier to jump tot he other siude & just list the dub-only stuff.

Does it really matter?
Takehito Koyasu, Daisuke Namikawa, Juurouta Kosugi, Yuji Ueda, Rie Tanaka...The Japanese cast is very acceptable.

On the other hand, it is more of a dry sci-fi tale. It's worth it, but it's not an action-packed fun space drama like Star Wars. I found it predictable in places (Gee, who do you think Iks is?). By pre-ordering the box+dvd, I got 2 puzzles with it (I think the only other box I've gotten with a puzzle was Spiral. Hellsing had a "blood" pack & a cool patch with the 2nd or 3rd dvd)
So sometimes buying the individual, though more expensive, can be pool. The boxes for Kyo Kara Maoh are interesting, as was the similar box for Requiem From the Darkness.

Yueh: yes, it matters, as I happen to enjoy dubs. Sorry if that somehow bothers you.

WRT right stuff and the niche-ness of Emma and the profitability of producing a dub...
C'mon, The Third, a sci-fi series with echoes of Frank Herbert's Dune (IMO), perfectly suitable for the Sci-Fi channel
vs. ... a Victorian romance drama?
(not that I wouldn't like to hear a British dub myself)

True to the Japanese word that inspired its name, Nozomi's focus is on “what sub only fans want.”
Fixed.

Yes Kadokawa Pictures US did the dub. Nozomi wouldn't want to set a precident.

You're off on that one. While there is an English dub for Gakuen Alice, it is not on Right Stuf's release, which is sub-only.

The Third was the last series I picked up from them and I thank Kadokawa for the dub since it's about the last dubbed series Nozomi's done in a while. It's also a damn good one for a surprisingly cool show.

It's not a matter of you enjoying dubs, but an issue of you being unrealistically stupid about this. A fantasy sci-fi anime with a young girl as the lead is not comparable to a slow-moving, mature Victorian romance anime.

This kind of "Dub Everything!" mentality is as self-defeating as sub elitism. Talk to Geneon and ask them if they believe that they should have dubbed Fighting Spirit, which apparently only sold half of what it needed to break even for just the first volume -- one can only imagine how abysmal later sales were for a 15 (technically 16) volume release.
