A North American anime release that is dub-only and DVD-only is rare to see in 2024. I can only assume that they got the rights to the old TV Ontario dub for dirt cheap and that they don't have any access to the Japanese audio.

I presume this might be similar to that Little Prince DVD set which I saw a couple of times only in Shoppers Drug Mart of all places circa 2008 or 2009, back when DVD-only releases were still the norm for older anime.

They got it through Studio 100 (Germany), sucessor of Apollo Film (Austria).

The story behind the series is complicated - and unlike ANN states: It wasn't completed in 1984, but years later - with episodes 27-52 never released in Japan and no (known) Japanese dub.
So the German dub would be the Original for Eps 27+

English dub is likely:

No, it wasn't. The dub has/had been available legally on YouTube for some time. I believe it's also available on Amazon Video as well.

Also, to the one who mentioned TV Ontario, I'm guessing they aired the dub with the theme song that goes:

"Why, she's Alice, Alice in Wonderland
Alice, Alice in Wonderland
Curious friends, and happy adventures too..."

In any case, I'm assuming that that's the version that's being released on DVD. Additionally, from what I can see, I'm guessing it was dubbed by the same people who dubbed the Vicky the Viking anime (Apollo Film, I guess?). Both dubs use the same font for the show's logo.

The English dub was actually recorded in South Africa; not Canada. They couldn't say it was recorded in South Africa internationally, because the country was under apartheid at the time.
